Y'all? This is the view of Lake Champlaign from our private balcony on our private cottage at Basin Harbor Club. We've only got tomorrow to experience as much as we can before checking out Friday morning, and I can tell you that we won't be even scratching the surface on available activities. Which just makes me want to come back. Often.
We drove about 10 hours to get here. In short, it was worth it.
So far we have:
*Checked in and fallen in love with our little house, which is one of 74 private cottages available at Basin Harbor. Ours sleeps three and has a King sized bed in the main room and a pull out couch in the perfectly quaint living room, for Eliana. Larger cottages sleep up to eight, and I keep finding myself dreaming up a Girl Body Pride retreat here.
*Eaten gluten-free meals prepared for us at the Red Mill Restaurant (I got a lobster roll, with a salad subbed for the bread. Totally getting the same thing tomorrow!)
*Gotten into our bathing suits and enjoyed an evening Basin Harbor Club pool party. Eliana, who is very unsure in the water, had a chance to build some confidence with a kick board and I, my friends, sauntered my sassy self into, in, and back out of the pool, alongside my daughter, for the first time in her entire life. She's nine. And while I could be ashamed of how long it took me to get over myself and just put on a bathing suit, already, I'd rather just celebrate today. She smiled. I smiled. No one cared what they, we, and others looked like in that swimming pool because they, we, and others were too busy having a good time. It was absolutely liberating.
I have so much more to share, including more photos, but we've got an early wakeup call and a full day ahead, so I'm going to be the Adult for once and do the Adult-ish thing and go to sleep now instead of staying up all night. And trust me, that would be so very easy here in my little cottage. I can picture myself finishing multiple books here.
A girl can dream. And tonight, this girl will do just that.
