It's book launch time!
Yes, AGAIN. Because my brain is mush and thinking is optional, I'm going to share a few random facts about BabyFat. You know, for the new kids in class. Twenty-Eight Random Facts. One for each chapter. Don't worry. My attention span isn't capable of boring you so I'll be splitting this up into three separate posts.
BabyFat Random Fact #1
I wrote BabyFat seven years ago in a year's time. My kid happened to be blowing out the candles on her second birthday cake at the time and I had a OHMYFUCKINGGAWDIAMSTILLPREGNANTFAT moment. So I got busy with the internet, launched the blog and started writing the book that very night. It made perfect sense to share a very vulnerable struggle to fall in love with my inner goddess and learn to love my ample curves with the public. I sure as hell wasn't getting into that shit with my therapist. Way Too Personal.
BabyFat Random Fact #2
Yes, Jenny Lawson blurbed my book. She said it goes great with cake. Listen to Jenny. Buy her books. Buy my book. Enjoy your cake.
BabyFat Random Fact #3
So we've got The Bloggess on the front and Scary Mommy on the back! Jill Smokler also graced my cover with her words, as did the following incredible ladies:
- Ann Imig, founder of Listen To Your Mother
-Rita Arens, author of The Obvious Game
-Kathy Cano-Murillo, a.k.a Crafty Chica, artist and author
-Catherine Connors, former editor at Babble and teller of stories
(Click their names to go to their Amazon author pages. In Catherine's case, it takes you to her Twigtale page, which is equally awesome. Buy their books. Because you're awesome and love to support your favorite authors, that's why.)
BabyFat Random Fact #4
Every chapter starts with a tweet from a reader. Some I know from blogging. Some I know in real life. Some I tweet stalked to make it to 28 quotes (the number of chapters in the book). Every quote was used with permission and make Babyfat a story every woman who has ever looked in the mirror and said WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO MY ASS IT'S HUGE and then tried every diet plan out there only to realize she was gonna fail at ALL THE THINGS until she could look in that same mirror and say I AM FUCKING BEAUTIFUL, DAMMIT.
BabyFat Random Fact #5
Forty-four agents told me to go pound sand. They said it in much nicer terms, of course, but then my former publisher said yes and really, I guess I can call that little fling my Starter Marriage in the publishing world.
BabyFat Random Fact #6
The point to BabyFat Random Fact #5 was to Not Stop Trying if you are on your own publishing journey. Or on your own Looking in the Mirror and Not Hating What You See journey. That's kind go the point of the book, actually. To Not Stop Trying. And that cake isn't the enemy.
BabyFat Random Fact #7
When I asked Lela Davidson to write my forward and she said yes, I also learned that spellcheck and autocorrect are assholes and that the word, in fact, is spelled foreword. Too-shay, Apple. And yes, I did that last one on purpose.
BabyFat Random Fact #8
We don't know who's baby the butt on the cover belongs to, but Eliana wants me to make it perfectly clear that it is not hers.
BabyFat Random Fact #9
My cover was designed by the incredible Michelle Fairbanks of Fresh Design BC.
BabyFat Random Fact #10
I thanked a lot of people in the acknowledgment page. You should probably read it. Just in case. I'm looking at you, BFF Heather, Beth Bartlett, and Heiddi Zalamar.
*Babyfat is available on Createspace! I'll be updating with Amazon links as they go live.
*The plan is to do it right this time and get BabyFat into stores, as well as approach hospitals about providing the book for new moms. I'd love to hear from you about your favorite indie bookstores and the names of the hospitals you gave birth at! I'm also all about the book clubs and skyping in, so let's get this party started!
