As a writer and memoirist, explaining myself and my history on paper (or on the screen) is something I do without much thought. I just need to write the words. But as an artist, and as a first-generation American Latina, a mother, a writer, and more, time and patience allowed me the opportunity to create a visual representation of who I am, what I do, and honor my cultural history while doing so. Autobiography is who I am on canvas, who I was in mixed media, and who I always will be no matter what tomorrow brings. If you look closely, you'll see every bit of me except for #BabyFat, which bame to be after this piece was completed.
I'll be sharing art and photography paying homage to Hispanic Heritage Month and invite you to join me in celebrating all the pieces that connect you personally to our Latino heritage. First Comes Love prints will be made available upon request. Don't forget to join Melanie Mendez-Gonzales of Que Means What in her #HHM15 photo challenge!
