My daughter made fast friends with artist and author, Kathy Cano-Murillo, of CraftyChica.com, at a #LATISM conference a few years ago. (We homeschool and my daughter travels with me on my business trips whenever possible.) Kathy was celebrating the launch of a new line of her crafting products carried by a major retailer and sent us a box of goodies for us to try out. Eliana, my daughter, immediately wanted to have her face painted as we were actively discussing Dia de Los Muertos at the time. So I painted her face, asked her to look up at me when I was finished, and I captured her spirit and our culture and our history in this image.
This photograph was honored as a Photo of the Year at the 2015 BlogHer/She Knows conference and was recently submitted for consideration as a juried art show selection. Prints will be made available for sale upon request.
