First Comes Love is a tribute to the holiday I am just beginning to learn about and celebrate as an adult. I am first-generation Mexican-American and was raised with a deep respect and understanding that our loved ones are never truly lost to us. We attend a special mass in their honor on the day of each family member's passing. They are always in our prayers. But we never celebrated with calaveras, altars, and ofrendas. First Comes Love is a representation of the history I am learning as I work to teach my daughter about an important part of her culture.
I'll be sharing art and photography paying homage to Hispanic Heritage Month and invite you to join me in celebrating all the pieces that connect you personally to our Latino heritage. First Comes Love prints will be made available upon request. Don't forget to join Melanie Mendez-Gonzales of Que Means What in her #HHM15 photo challenge!
